RESIDENTS of Qatar will see for the first time mobile food carts operating on the country’s streets during the Holy Month of Ramadan. The carts will offer special Ramadan meals from Monday.
Mobile food carts were allowed to operate in Qatar by the concerned authorities and have already become popular among Asian and Western expats, who find in it a familiar joint.
The “eateries on wheels” will operate at night during Ramadan offering residents a wide variety of Ramadan dishes. It will include both mobile carts roaming around the country and those stationed at landmarks.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, Director of Abocado, a food truck offering Mexican dishes at Al Sadd Sports Club, Azza Altawashi said, “Our unique eatery operates in two vintage buses that were made in the late 1970’s. It has got recognition from Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC)as a tourist establishment and is all set to receive customers during Ramadan.”
Abocado can accommodate a total of 30 customers inside the bus and in its parking space.
“It took two years for Abocadoto finally see the light of the day. Here, we provide authentic Mexican dishes in a unique setting,” Azza Altawashi said.
According to Altawashi, the making of the eatery was a formidable task as it emerges out of vertical merger of two buses, with the upper bus laid upside down on the bus below.
In an effort to attract customers, the interior of the bus has been decorated with number plates collected from Mexico and several other countries. Besides, it is embellished with Qatari, Turkish, American and other coins to give it a different look.
“The dishes are prepared by our own Mexican chef to guarantee its authenticity. The restaurant will be open from 6pm to 1am on week days and from 6pm to 2am on weekends,” Altawashi added.
The everyday supply of quality vegetables from local farmers is another advantage of food carts for lack of storage facilities.
