Turkish President’s political advisor Yasin Aktay has said the world needs a real mechanism for securing justice and applying law and Qatar is a leading country that can help achieving that.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune on the sidelines of the International Mechanism to Combat Impunity Conference in Doha recently, Aktay said the world needs such conferences because human rights issues, accountability and impunity are prevalent, especially in the Islamic world.
“In some places, there is no real judiciary and therefore, we end up having dictatorships,” he said.
Aktay praised Qatar’s international role in launching initiatives related to implementing human rights and consolidating its concepts everywhere.
The Turkish diplomat, who was part of the investigations into the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, said the investigations are still going on and the case is not closed yet.
“If we want to prosecute the perpetrators, we must first have control over them. We only can announce who are the perpetrators and point to them and Turkey had provided all the evidence to the world in this case and it is the international responsibility to prosecute those guilty for killing the journalist Jamal Kashoggi now,” he said.
Aktay assured that the investigations are still on and that evidence has been shown to the world that points to certain perpetrators who commanded the death squad and who killed the Saudi journalist. He said no accusation can be made without real evidence.
