QATAR Fund for Development (QFFD) laid the foundation stone for a cancer treatment centre under the patronage of President of the Republic of Burkina Faso Roch Marc Christian Kabore, and in the presence of the first lady and the prime minister in Ouagadougou.
The ceremony was also attended by a high-level delegation from QFFD led by Deputy Director General of the Department of Shared Services Mansour Abdullah al Dhaimi and a number of ministers and officials from the Burkinabe side.
The Minister of Health of Burkina Faso Leonie Claudine gave a speech at the ceremony expressing her thanks and gratitude to the Government and people of the State of Qatar under the leadership of the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, for the humanitarian and developmental assistance in the healthcare sector.
In his turn, Dhaimi said, “We at QFFD are proud to be involved with the building of this new medical centre in West Africa, which will strengthen the health sector in Burkina Faso and will help save lives of a number of cancer patients. This project is of great importance to us and the local officials and will be active in providing treatment, and improving the level of health services in general and cancer treatment in particular.”
The project is estimated to benefit 1,700 people annually. It will improve access to treatment as well as quality of services and reduce the number of patients going abroad for treatments, which will in turn help reduce the financial burden on the government’s health budget.
In addition to providing training to medical and technical staff, the centre will also include a radiotherapy section, chemical treatment rooms, laboratories and administrative offices, covering a total area of 1681 square metres.
