THE Cabinet at its weekly meeting chaired by Prime Minister and Minster of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani at the Amiri Diwan on Wednesday praised the speech of the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani at the opening of the 140th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Doha for being insightful and contentwise very important.
The Cabinet lauded the relevant issues raised by HH the Amir on education, as well as attention to youth issues, the rule of law, justice, dialogue and understanding among nations, combating terrorism and enhancing the role of parliamentary diplomacy.
The Cabinet also expressed its pride in Qatar’s hosting of this important parliamentary event, which affirms the world’s appreciation of the country’s active role in global arena to promote peace.
The Cabinet congratulated the IPU on the success of its general assembly and the accompanying meetings which included in-depth and fruitful discussions that will be reflected positively in the IPU programmes in the future.
Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs HE Dr Issa bin Saad al Jafali al Nuaimi read out the agenda decisions of the meeting.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet approved a proposal to amend Decree Law No (17) of 2010 on the organisation of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), including increasing the term of membership in the committee from three years to five years, renewable for a period or other similar periods.
The Cabinet also endorsed a draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of youth between the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Qatar and the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and a draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of youth between Qatar and the Republic of Argentina.
The Cabinet then reviewed the letter of the Governor of Qatar Central Bank on the proposal to amend some articles in the Code of Criminal Procedure, promulgated by Law No (23) of 2004.
The Cabinet also reviewed the letter of HE the Minister of Municipality and the Environment on a draft law amending some provisions of Law No (4) of 1985 on the organisation of buildings.
Furthermore, it reviewed the letter of the Minister of Municipality and Environment on the draft decisions on the places of swimming on public and private beaches, as well as the requirements of security and safety there.
The Cabinet then listened to the presentation by the director of the Government Communications Office on the strategy and achievements of the office in 2018 and its objectives for 2019.
