Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani has condemned the countries and forces that are supporting the Haftar-led group in Libya in utter violation of the international law. They want to impose a new reality on Libya by force, he has said.
During a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu in Ankara on Tuesday, the Foreign Minister condemned the attacks by Haftar forces to take control of Libyan capital Tripoli, stressing that those who support Haftar are partners in what is happening in Libya.
Sheikh Mohammed also condemned the duplicity of some countries that are supporting Haftar.
“There is a duplicity on the part of some countries, which is surprising, despite continuous efforts of the National Reconciliation Government recognised by the international community in accordance with Security Council resolutions,” he said.
The FM called on the international community to have a firm stance in the face of these violations of international law in Libya and all regional issues.
“There are countries that are committed to preserving the international system and international law demanding the immediate cessation of military action in Tripoli and return to dialogue for reaching a political solution.”
“We call on the international community to have a determined stand against these violations not only in Libya but on all regional issues where some groups do not observe the international law,” the FM said.
On relations with Turkey, Sheikh Mohammed said, “Our relations with Turkey are strategic and growing in all areas and we hope to upgrade them to greater levels. We appreciate the role played by Turkey during its leadership of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and we support the continuation of this role in the Islamic world.”
He said Qatar is subjected to unilateral measures from three Gulf countries. “The whole world sees today that Qatar is still on the path of development, and the countries that have taken unilateral actions have not found any support from the international community,” he added.
The FM discussed with his Turkish counterpart the Palestinian issue, especially Prime Minister Netanyahu’s remarks on the annexation of the West Bank as part of Israeli territory. He said Qatar rejects Netanyahu’s statement on West Bank.
