Qatar has been following the recent military escalation in Libya with great concern, noting that this escalation comes shortly before the convening of the Libyan National Conference, and thus threatens to undermine the UN-backed political solution.
In a statement on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Qatar’s concern over western Libya sliding into chaos and insecurity, which will have serious repercussions on the political process and the ability of institutions in those areas to protect citizens’ lives and contain the problem of migration and human trafficking.
Qatar reminded regional and international actors that this escalation might have a disastrous impact on the entire region, including Europe, and called for exercising influence to stop the recent attacks on western Libya in a clear violation of the UN agreement.
The statement called on all parties in Libya to shoulder their responsibility towards the Libyan people, who aspire for peaceful solution and prioritising national dialogue over military options and the interest of the Libyan nation over individual ones.
