Qatar on Thursday took part in the 12th periodic meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Presidents of Legislative Councils (the Shura Councils, Council of Representatives, the Federal National Council and the National Assembly).
Shura Council Speaker HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al Mahmoud represented Qatar at the one-day meeting.
The final communique of the meeting highlighted a number of decisions taken by the presidents regarding the topics on the meeting agenda, including the recommendations of the symposium on ‘Localisation of Jobs and Investment in Human Resources of the GCC States’.
The presidents of GCC Legislative Councils also thanked the Kuwaiti National Assembly for hosting and organising the meeting.
The meeting also chose ‘the Role of Legislative Councils in Achieving the Goals of Sustainable Development’ as the common GCC theme 2019, whose implementation shall be carried out by the Omani Shura Council.
The communique mentioned that the leaders have been informed about the measures taken to strengthen relations with foreign parliaments and parliamentary associations, and gave directions to continue working on strengthening the existing ties.
It pointed out that presidents of GCC Legislative Councils have issued a condemnation statement on the US recognition of Israel’s sovereignty over the Occupied Golan Heights.
The Shura Council Speaker left Jeddah after the meeting. He was seen off by Secretary-General of the Saudi Shura Council Mohammed bin Dakhil al Mutairi.
