The fear that Qatari pilgrims might be deprived of their right to perform Hajj for the second year in a row is growing with Saudi Arabia continuing to politicise religious places to achieve political leverage.
Traditionally, authorities in Qatar start arrangements for the Hajj season with the Saudi side in the month of Rajab, but so far all indications point to Saudi complicity to deny the Qatari pilgrims their religious rights
The lack of authorisations for Qatari Hajj and Umrah campaigns in Saudi Arabia, the closure of electronic registration for Qataris and residents, no contacts between Hajj authorities in KSA and the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in Qatar are clear and undeniable indications of the Saudi Arabian intent. The Saudi Arabia’s embassy and consulate in Qatar are closed.
A number of Hajj and Umrah campaign officials welcomed the legal measures announced by the Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, stressing their full support for any steps taken by Qatar. They hoped that the efforts of the Qatari authorities will bear fruit as depriving Qatar’s citizens and residents from performing Hajj violates all international laws and conventions.
The conditions set by the Saudi authorities for Qatari pilgrims are nothing but flimsy pretext to serve the Saudi political agenda.
