Qatar Youth Hostels (QYH) organised a geological journey to Zekreet area in northwest Qatar with the participation of 40 people led by Petroleum Geologist Engineer Saeed al Kuwari.
Head of activities at QYH Abdullah Saeed said QYH is interested in all types of tourism, adding that geological tourism is one of the new forms of tourism, and is based on the use of sites with geological characteristics and fundamental values without being damaged or destroyed.
The geological journey programme organises educational visits to identify the geological characteristics of a number of national areas and study them to teach the youth its importance and to preserve natural features and geological diversity.
The objectives of the programme are to preserve the natural features and geological diversity by spreading awareness of its importance, put the concept of development in the field of conservation of geological features, achieve the relationship between geological diversity and create a reference document for geological tourism for those interested in this field.
Engineer Saeed al Kuwari expressed his pleasure in leading this trip, which he considered to be successful.
He pointed out that the participating youth made it successful by asking questions and participating in identifying the geological characteristics of the Zekreet area. (QNA)
