THE sun will be exactly vertical on the earth’s equator on Wednesday (March 20) at 9:58pm Universal Time (UT). The length of the day and night will be approximately the same across the world on the day because of the vernal equinox phenomenon, the Qatar Calendar House (QCH) announced on Monday.
The phenomenon is important as it heralds the onset of spring in Qatar. The vernal equinox and the four astronomical seasons are an indicator of climatic changes. Also, on this day one can observe the exact positions of sunrise and sunset all over the world.
Expert Astronomer at QCH Dr Beshir Marzouk said: “On Wednesday, the length of day and night will be approximately equal over southern and northern hemispheres including Qatar, where the length of the day and night will be 12 hours and 7 minutes and 11 hours and 53 minutes respectively.”
The length of the winter season this year was 88 days, while the length of the spring season will be 93 days. (TNN)
