Speaker of the Shura Council HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al Mahmoud on Thursday participated in a parliametary session entitled ‘Emerging Challenges to Multilateralism: A Parliametary Response’, at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
On the sidelines of the two-day Parliamentary Hearing session, the Shura speaker met with President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Gabriela Cuevas Barron.
During the meeting, they discussed parliamentary relations between Qatar and the IPU and the ways of enhancing them in addition to the topics on the agenda of the Parliamentary Hearing session.
They also discussed the preparations of the Shura Council to host the 140th IPU General Assembly meetings and related meetings in Doha from April 6 to 10.
Mahmoud also met with ambassadors and delegates of 16 non-member countries of IPU.
The Shura Council speaker called on ambassadors and delegates to participate in the meeting of the 140th session of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to be held in Qatar in April.
He highlighted the importance of the session and the issues and topics that will be discussed which will have a positive impact on the international parliamentary community.
He also stressed that the presence of both the IPU member states and non-member states will contribute to enrich constructive discussions and dialogues during the meetings of the 140th IPU session, thus producing results and decisions that will benefit the world.
The meetings were attended by Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations HE Sheikha Alya bint Ahmed bin Saif al Thani and a number of the Shura Council members.Shura Council speaker takes part in parliamentary hearing session at UN HQ; invites IPU non-member countries to Doha meeting
