The Al Majd Road, known earlier as Orbital Road, that links highways throughout the country was opened to the public on Thursday.
Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani officially inaugurated the Al Majd Road.
The road will be the artery of Qatar’s road network and will facilitate access to 2022 FIFA World Cup stadiums from anywhere in the country.
With 18 intersections, the new road links all major roads in the country, connecting it to Al Wukair, G-Ring, Salwa, Al Sailiya and Dukhan. It links and serves about 30 residential areas in the country in addition to many economic facilities as well as the World Cup stadiums.
Stretching about 195kms, from Mesaieed Road to Ras Laffan Road and Al Khor Highway, Al Majd Road is an important addition to the network of roads in Qatar.
The road has been named after ‘Tamim Al Majd’ ( Tamim the Glorious), the symbol of pride and resilience in facing the unjust blockade imposed on Qatar.
The road provides seven lanes of free-flow dual carriageway from Mesaieed to Al Khor that has the capacity to carry over 14,000 vehicles per hour in each direction.
The new road will not only reduce travel time by up to 50 percent but will also help reduce traffic congestion on highways and local roads.
In a tweet, the PM said, “Today, we celebrate #Qatar’s newest achievement, the launch of #AlMajd_Road, the expansion of our highway network and the backbone of Qatar’s infrastructure programme, serving approximately 30 residential areas, several economic facilities and World Cup stadiums.”
Minister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim bin Saif al Sulaiti said Al Majd Road will be provide a major contribution to land transport and will prove to be a boon to the internal and external trade.

“The new road will serve many economic areas, such as the Industrial Area, Economic Zones Company (Manateq) and the Mesaieed Industrial Area. In addition, it is connected to Lusail City from one side and facilitates access to the business hubs in West Bay,” Sulaiti added.
Minister of Finance HE Ali Shareef al Emadi said the government is committed to providing funds to deliver and develop various infrastructure projects, especially the road network that will facilitate access to 2022 FIFA World Cup stadiums.
Minister of Municipality and Environment HE Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al Subaie said Al Majd Road serves many municipalities and facilitates traffic flow and access to 30 residential areas.
Public Works Authority (Ashghal) President Saad bin Ahmed al Mohannadi said the completion of this road on schedule, despite the unjust blockade on Qatar, proves that the country is fast progressing in delivering world-class infrastructure.
“The new road network will provide direct connectivity to both Al Rayyan and Lusail Stadium and will facilitate access to all other stadiums namely Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, Al Wakra Stadium, Al Thumama Stadium, Ras Bu Abboud Stadiumsouth, as well as Education City Stadium and Khalifa International Stadium,” he added.
