The Shura Council, at a meeting chaired by the Speaker HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al Mahmoud on Monday, congratulated the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani and the Deputy Amir HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al Thani on the victory of Qatar national football team in the Asian Cup 2019.
Mahmoud also congratulated the people and residents of Qatar, the players and the technical and administrative staff for the historic achievement.
The speaker said the achievement of Qatar’s national team was the result of sound planning, insightful vision, national will and comprehensive strategic vision whose foundations were laid down by HH the Amir in all political, economic, social, sports and cultural affairs in the State.
He said, “This achievement is a source of pride not only for Qatar and its people and residents, but also for all brothers in the Gulf and Arab countries.”
He praised the civilised behaviour, high moral character, sportsmanship and national spirit shown by the national team.
Mahmoud also reaffirmed that the people of Qatar derive their honour, ambition and ability to challenge and make history from a glorious past and a present that is full of confidence, determination and success under a wise leadership that cares for the interests of its people and consciously plans for the future of its next generations.
He said the State’s celebration of the national team’s victory in Asian Cup is a new occasion to affirm the people’s unity and loyalty to their leadership.
The Shura speaker thanked the people of the friendly countries who celebrated the achievement with Qatar and expressed their love and support for the country.
The Shura Council also discussed the report of the Internal and External Affairs Committee on a draft law amending the provisions of Law No 7 of 2007 on the Settlement of Administrative Disputes.
After the discussion, the Council approved the said draft law and decided to refer its recommendations thereon to the government.
The Council was briefed on the report of its delegation participating in the 6th Baku International Humanitarian Forum in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
At the end of the meeting, the speaker briefed the Council on his meeting with President of the Asia-Pacific Group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and Speaker of the Micronesia Parliament Wesley Simina and his accompanying delegation.
The meeting was part of speaker’s meetings with the heads of parliamentary groups within the umbrella of the IPU.
He said the meeting discussed relations between the Shura Council and IPU’s Asia-Pacific Group and Micronesia Parliament.
The ongoing arrangements for the 140th IPU ordinary General Assembly meetings and associated meetings were also reviewed during the meeting, he said, adding that Wesley Simina expressed pleasure at hosting the session in Doha.
Meanwhile, the Public Services and Utilities Committee of the Shura Council held a meeting under the chairmanship of its Rapporteur Mohammed bin Mahdi al Ahbabi.
The committee reviewed the draft law on settling crimes related to the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and decided to refer it recommendations to the Shura Council.
