Davos, Switzerland
International cooperation is the solution to the world’s challenges, World Economic Forum founder Klaus Schwab said on Tuesday as he opened this year’s meeting of global leaders in Davos.
“We are at the crossroads of history of humanity. We now have to shape the future,” Schwab said in his speech.
Talking about his concept of “Globalization 4.0,” Schwab called for an interconnected world that puts humans at the centre, instead of making them “slaves” to new technologies.
However, some of the young social and environmental activists who are the chairpersons of this year’s meeting pointed out that it would be more important to talk about concrete, local action to tackle fundamental problems such as migration or climate change.
“What does it tell us about the global commitment when we have all the solutions but so little is happening?” Swedish activist Noura Berrouba asked at a press conference.
Three thousand politicians and managers were kicking off the four-day meeting in the Swiss mountain resort, a major annual event in the diplomatic calendar.
