THE Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ has announced a temporary closure on Al Gharrafa Roundabout (known as Immigration R/A) for 14 days from January 24.
The roundabout will be closed to the north-bound and south-bound traffic while the bridge will remain open. The closure will be from 12am to 9am on January 24 and 31 and from 12am midnight to 5am on the remaining days.
During this period, northbound traffic will be diverted to Khalifa Street and drivers shall make a U-turn at the intersection with Arab League Street to return to Al Shamal Road or continue towards Al Luqta Street. The southbound traffic will be diverted to Al Luqta Street and drivers can make a U-turn at the intersection with Huwar Street to return to Al Shamal Road or continue to Khalifa Street as shown in the map. East and westbound traffic will not be affected as shown in the attached map.
The diversion comes as part of Phase 1 of Ashghal project aiming to convert Immigration R/A to an intersection and to develop parts of service roads on 22 February Road, in order to improve traffic movement and increase the intersection’s capacity. This phase also includes the development of the storm water drainage system and the addition of new lighting poles at the new intersection. (TNN)
