Qatar Charity’s (QC) office in the Gaza Strip, with generous support of the benefactors in Qatar, has renovated 215 homes of needy families living in harsh economic and social conditions in the region.
The project, implemented at a total cost of around QR5.5 mn, has benefited 1,742 people.
More home renovation projects are expected to be implemented in the Gaza Strip this year to improve the living conditions of the poor and needy families.
Mohammed Abu Haloub, director of QC’s office in the Gaza Strip, said the project contributed effectively to creating a healthy environment for the poor people.
“Qatar Charity will spare no effort to provide safe and secure housing for the poor and needy families to ensure a decent life for them,” he said.
He pointed out that the driving factor behind the decision to renovate the homes was the deteriorating economic and living conditions of the underprivileged families in the Strip.
The beneficiaries of the project expressed their pleasure at moving to safe homes, as they were used to suffer from rainwater flowing into their homes every winter.
Fadel al Wahidi, a beneficiary of the home renovation project, who lives in the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip, thanked the people of Qatar. He said, “Thank you for protecting my family and children from the risk of seasonal suffering as a result of rainfall.”
Ayad al Nunmim, 40, a breadwinner of a family of five, who was awarded a restoration grant, said, “We have never dreamt of such a beautiful house before.”
