The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) is committed to support small scale development programmes in Qatar as these social business initiatives play a vital role in supporting the Qatari youth by providing them with a platform to launch their projects, a senior official of the ministry said on Monday.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the fourth edition of Entrepreneurship and Business Conference and Products in Doha, MoCI Undersecretary Sultan bin Rashid al Khater said, “Social business initiatives contribute to the development of the Qatari society and optimise the concept of local production in the Qatari market. It also promotes entrepreneurship initiatives which are one of the main channels leading to the development of human capital and therefore the country’s economy.”
Organised by NAMA under the patronage Minister of Commerce and Industry HE Ali bin Ahmed al Kuwari, the forum targets small and micro enterprises projects, enables them to access the local market to conduct business in a natural competitive environment, attempts to strengthen their presence and impact on the national economy, emphasises the role of their strategic partners in supporting and codifying them and provide them with an ecosystem.
The five-day event is also aimed at spreading the culture of entrepreneurship among those who are interested internationally and locally. It also includes a conference with the participation of local and international speakers to highlight future pilot solutions.
Speaking on the occasion, NAMA Center Acting Executive Director Amal bint Abdul Latif al Mannai said, “The first edition of the exhibition was initiated back in the year 2000. The second edition held in 2010, with the participation of 82 pilot projects, and witnessed the launch of the first incubator for pilot projects in Qatar. The third edition was organised in 2014 with the participation of 69 micro-entrepreneur projects.
“Taking into consideration the impressive outcome of the previous editions of the exhibition, the organising committee decided to hold the fourth edition of the exhibition this year. The exhibition aims to create a natural marketing environment for small and micro enterprises in Qatar by enabling them to conduct their normal business activities and showcase their products and sell them.”
Mannai said, “Through these exhibitions, we aim to build the knowledge and financial capacities of the small and micro entrepreneurs by providing them with the technical, financial, promotional and incubation support. This will enable them to better execute and manage their projects in an attempt to ensure growth and sustainability.”
“This event comes in line with Qatar Foundation’s mission to implement policies; guide initiatives and capacities; contribute to the expansion of the youth choices; develop their skills and abilities; and empower them within Qatar, by equipping them with the technical and material capacities to achieve social well-being and realise the objectives of Qatar’s future national plan,” she said.
