Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), represented by the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed), inaugurated the 8th electric car charging station at Qatar Scientific Club on Wednesday.
The station was installed in cooperation with Siemens Qatar.
The opening is in continuation of the first phase of the launch of electric car charging stations in Qatar as part of the green vehicles initiative to provide a clean, healthy and safe environment for future generations.
The initiative also coincides with Tarsheed missions that call for the reduction of harmful carbon emissions by 7 percent across all sectors in Qatar by 2022.
Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department Manager in Kahramaa Eng Abdulaziz al Hammadi said this station is a continuation of efforts on part of Kahramaa for the preparation of building necessary infrastructure for electric vehicles. He said as many as 400 stations are planned to be established in cooperation with the private sector by the end of 2022 for encouraging use of electric vehicles in Qatar.
Qatar Scientific Club was chosen as it’s a youth initiative that encourages innovation and acquisition of new technologies in Qatar for the younger generation of inventors.
