The Cabinet has hailed the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani’s directives to grant $50 million in support of the Syrian refugees and displaced persons who are suffering tough humanitarian conditions as a result of displacement and cold weather.
The grant is in the form of an urgent relief aid package and various development programmes through Qatar Fund for Development to the Syrian refugees in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, in addition to the displaced within Syria.
The Cabinet also lauded the Amir’s initiative to establish a fund, sponsored by the African Union, to cover the costs of evacuating irregular African immigrants in Libya to their countries and reintegrating them into their communities as well as contributing $20 million to this fund.
It said the initiative reflects the Amir’s keenness to promote development and peace in African countries and the stability of their people. The Cabinet called on the international community to support this fund and to work with the African Union to end the suffering of the African migrants and provide them with a decent life.
The Cabinet meeting was chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani. page 2
