Qatar Charity (QC) has thanked the supporters of its ‘Arsal Relief’ campaign for their overwhelming response to the on-air donation campaign broadcast live by Qatar TV, Qatar Radio and Al Quran Al Kareem radio, in cooperation with the Qatar Media Corporation.
Within three hours, the campaign raised more than QR214mn to support the Syrian refugees in several countries.
QC also thanked all the commercial, medical, media, sporting and educational organisations and social media influencers for their support to the campaign. Many of these organisations also donated part of their sales revenues to the campaign.
Several prominent figures participated in the on-air donation campaign, who said that Qatari charitable societies were credible in the eyes of donors and benefactors, both in and outside Qatar.
The list of the commercial organisations that generously contributed to the campaign by donating their sales revenues included restaurants, eateries, coffee shops and commercial stores such as Al Aker Sweets, Coffee Traders, Ma’un Restaurant, Al Baranda Café, L’wzaar Restaurant, Le Gou and MIO Gusto.
Bin Muftah Medical Centre, Al Hayat Medical Centre and Moon Light Abayat also contributed to the campaign. The list of supporters of the campaign included Qatar Basketball Federation and Dar Al Sharq Group. The group donated the sales revenues for three days of its newspapers, including The Peninsula, Al Sharq and Lusail, to the campaign.
The campaign was accompanied by several cultural, awareness and interactive activities, which were held at the Gulf Mall and Al Khor Mall by Al Rayan and Al Khor branches of Qatar Charity Center for Community Development.
Meanwhile, QC’s relief team is continuing to distribute emergency relief aid to Syrians refugees affected by storms in Lebanon. The team is headed by Faisal al Fehaida, assistant to the CEO in the Operations and International Partnerships Sector at QC.
The aid includes necessary winter supplies such as heating fuel, food, blankets, winter clothes and shoes.
The relief team has visited nine camps with 4,000-4,500 Syrian refugees. They also visited Arsal Medical Complex, the only medical complex in the region, and distributed medicines to children, while sending mobile clinics to snow-covered areas.
QC has urged philanthropists in Qatar to continue with their support for the campaign as the opportunity to contribute to it will be available for two weeks.
