In the wake of some commercial complexes reducing the number of licensed parking spaces for use in other activities, the Central Municipal Council (CMC) has recommended a review of the parking lots by specialists from the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME). This is being done to ensure there are exactly the same numbers of parking lots as mentioned in certificate of construction issued by the authority.
The CMC has also recommended that the owners of commercial complexes who have reduced the parking lots should restore the original numbers mentioned in the certificate. The recommendations came after CMC Vice-Chairman Engineer Hamad bin Lahdan al Mohannadi raised the issue at the council. It has been noticed that this practice has led to traffic congestion in areas surrounding the commercial complexes.
