Sudanese President Omar al Bashir on Wednesday hailed Qatar’s support for Sudan, which helped in achieving peace and stability in Darfur.
He said Qatar’s support had led to armed Darfur rebels give up arms and join the political mainstream and parties that was a positive contribution to achieving national security and stability.
Addressing a crowd at the Green Square in Khartoum, Bashir said Qatar is one of the key supporters of Sudan, along with countries such as China, Russia, and Kuwait.
The Sudanese president called on his country’s youth to work together and improve their skills as they get ready for the handover of power.
He said the current administration was ready to handover power to those who deserve it. He told the youth that the only way to reach power in Sudan will be through the ballot box.
Bashir thanked the armed forces for what they offered to the country to help maintain its stability. He highlighted the civilised approach of the security forces in dealing with protestors, while being very firm in dealing with vandalism.
He said what the government has achieved was done in partnership with the people. He, however, warned that nobody or group can destroy public property without being held accountable by the government.
Bashir had a message for those who held arms saying that there was no need for anyone to go down that route following the peace agreement and the national dialogue.
The president said all issues are now up for dialogue and welcomed them to participate in comprehensive peace process.
Bashir praised the perseverance of the Sudanese people in the face of difficult circumstances facing the country, adding that the country is more than capable of dealing with any crises it might face.
Minister of Labour, Administrative Reform and Human Resources Development Bahr Idriss Abu Garda stressed the importance of strengthening national unity and adherence to national dialogue and defence of its outputs. Garda stressed that dialogue is the only option available and that they must have strong will to overcome the crisis and avoid the dangers of war.
