A dust storm is likely to hit Qatar on Friday, with dusty winds passing over most areas in the country, the Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) has said.
“The country may be affected by a dust storm that leads to low horizontal visibility, especially in the northern and southwest regions,” the QMD said in tweet.
“Northwesterly winds are expected to affect the country from the beginning on Friday. Wind gust expected to reach 28 knots at times which may lead to blowing dust, especially in open areas, causing a noticeable drop in temperature from Friday evening by about 3 to 5 degrees C compared with previous days,” the QMD said in tweet.
The dust storm is expected to significantly reduce visibility and sharply increase dust levels. Visibility levels are expected to be 5 to 6kms at places, with it getting reduced to 3kms in some areas.
The QMD has advised people to close their windows at home during overnight on Thursday and exercise caution.
