African expatriates have wished Qatar and its people happiness and greater prosperity on the occasion of Qatar National Day today. These sentiments have been articulated by the community leaders of the African expatriates on this occasion.
The expat communities from Africa are excited to be a part of the celebrations to mark the National Day of Qatar, which they consider a second home where they are happy to live and work, and be partners in the host country’s unending development. Despite the blockade, they say, the country has emerged even stronger and, they believe, the country will further prosper under the stewardship of its great leaders.
The expatriates participated in the Friendship Parade that took place at Aspire Park as part of the Qatar National Day activities. Dressed in their country’s regalia, they waved Qatari flags. They also presented cultural songs from their countries.
Ugandan Community in Qatar (UGACOQ) Vice Chairperson Muganzi Aiden said that on behalf of the Ugandan expatriates in Qatar, he wished Qatar prosperous times.
“On this occasion, we would like to remember how far the country has come. The country has developed very fast.”
Aiden said that even with the blockade, the country has continued to prosper. “We are grateful for the wise leadership of this country.”
He thanked Qatar for offering 11,000 Ugandans work in Qatar. “About two years ago, Qatar issued 40,000 visas for Ugandans to come to Qatar. In the recent past, the number of Ugandans in Qatar has really grown.”
Aiden added that Ugandans are happy to live here because Qatar is a safe and secure place for them.
He further urged Qatar to explore more opportunities in Africa, especially East Africa. “We have fertile lands and we believe that Qatar business people can explore those areas.”
Aiden further said that soon Uganda will open an embassy here thus making the lives of Ugandans here easier even further.
Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation-Qatar (NIDO-Qatar) President Victor Ikoli said, “On the occasion of the 140th anniversary of Qatar’s foundation, we extend our best wishes to the country’s leadership for delivering an amazing and the first Arab World Cup in 2022 and achieving the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. We are witnesses to the country’s dramatic transformation in a short span of time.”
In his words, Qatar is a safe home for everybody because it is stable and peaceful. “We will continue to pray for the peace and progress of the country. It is a country that has given opportunities to everybody and our sincere wishes are for it to continue to thrive as the shining star in the comity of nations in the region and the world. Nigerians from all sectors in the country including health, academia, engineering, construction and safety are excited and happy to be in Qatar at this point in the nation’s history. We fully support the country’s resolve and determination in the face of an illegal blockade. We love Qatar 100 percent.”
Chairman of the Ethiopian community in Qatar Kumlachew Ketsela said, “On this special occasion of National Day, we look forward to an amazing celebration.”
He said that this year’s National Day is significant in that only 4 years are left before Qatar hosts the FIFA World Cup 2022. “I was at the launch of the Lusail Stadium on Friday, which has amazing features. I saw how far Qatar has proceeded in preparation for the World Cup. It’s going to be an exceptional event and Qatar is all set to raise the bar.”
Ketsela said that Qatar has offered a second home to over 11,000 Ethiopians who live and work in Qatar. “Recently, Qatar gave us a place where we are going to start an Ethiopian school, and we are so grateful for that.”
FC Kenya Team Manager John Ngurugwe said, “I would like to thank the State of Qatar for giving Kenyans an opportunity to be in this country both as expatriates and visitors. Qatar has created numerous opportunities for Kenyans in various sectors--in the airline, transport, hospitality industry and education sector, among others. The newly inaugurated Doha Mombasa flight is a huge plus for both Qatar and Kenyan tourism industry.”
Ngurugwe further said, “On the occasion of the Qatar National Day, I would like to wish Qatar all the best and hope for even bigger ties with Kenya, especially as we head to the Qatar FIFA World Cup 2022.”
