The Vietnam Embassy in Qatar hosted a cultural event at Katara Drama Theatre on Saturday as part of its cultural programme this year and to celebrate the inauguration of Qatar Airways’ (QA) direct flights to Da Nang city scheduled to commence on December 19.
Da Nang is a coastal city in central Vietnam known for its centuries-old pagodas, French colonial buildings, national parks and sandy beaches.
The cultural event, held in cooperation with Katara and Qatar Airways, featured Da Nang-based dance troupe Charming Da Nang who conveyed the story of the rich culture and traditions of Vietnam and their city through a colourful performance which included a demonstration of Aodai Non la (silk hand fan), bamboo instrument T’rung and earthen vases.
Speaking on the occasion, Vietnam’s Ambassador to Qatar HE Nguyen Dinh Thao said, “Qatar Airways, together with a number of Qatari businesses, have made significant contributions to enhancing the relations between Vietnam and Qatar, not only in economic and commercial fields but also in the fields of culture, tourism and people-to-people exchange.”
He added, “Qatar Airways has so far launched direct flights to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. On December 19, the airline will begin direct flights to Da Nang, a city listed in the Top 10 worth-living cities in the world in 2018 by Live and Invest Overseas, a Panamanian travel magazine.
“The group will take you on the journey to Da Nang, Vietnam, a gateway to UNESCO cultural heritages: Hue Citadel, Hoi An old town and My Son Sanctuary.”
The envoy said the event titled ‘Vietnam Cultural Event: Da Nang- an Oriental Charm’, is part of the series of events organised by the embassy this year to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Qatar and the Southeast Asian country. He said, “Vietnam-Qatar relations have made significant improvements in the last 25 years and there will be many further steps in time to come. There have been exchanges of high-level delegations between the two countries.
“A number of agreements and MoU have been signed which have created framework for bilateral cooperation in many fields such as politics, economics, investments, labour and education. With the attention of leaders of the two countries, the relations between Vietnam and Qatar will be more developed and strengthened in the coming years.”
The envoy also extended his congratulations to the leadership and people of Qatar on the upcoming celebration of Qatar National Day on December 18.
