The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani on Sunday met United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and his accompanying delegation at the Amiri Diwan on Sunday. The meeting dealt with prospects of joint cooperation between Qatar and the UN and the means to develop them. The UN chief extended thanks to the Amir for Qatar’s humanitarian efforts in different countries, including Palestine, Libya, Sudan and Yemen. He thanked the Amir for Qatar’s hosting of the Doha Forum, which discusses a set of regional and international challenges, and for signing the Sustainable and Strategic Partnership agreement between Qatar and the UN. According to the agreement, Qatar will provide $500 million support to UN organisations. The Amir and UN chief also reviewed the situation in Syria, Yemen and Palestine and the repercussions of the Gulf crisis on the region, stressing the importance of resolving it through dialogue.
