More than 733,000 workers in Qatar benefited from various programmes and services provided by Qatar Charity (QC) during 2017 and the first half of 2018, at a total cost of QR18mn.
In order to carry out its activities, QC cooperated with governmental institutions and companies in Qatar, including the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, Qatar University (QU), schools, Aster Medical Center, Al Wehda Medical Center, Ansar Gallery, Lulu Hypermarket, Qatar Rail, The Pearl, United Development Company and ‘We Feel You’ initiative, among several others.
QC’s assistance and services for workers included food baskets, clothes, winter supplies, personal hygiene kits, meals for fasting persons, daily meals, Adahi (sacrificial) meat, water and juices, in addition to conducting periodic medical tests, holding health and awareness lectures, organising recreational activities and implementing development projects.
During the period, QC, in cooperation with the MME, distributed suitcases of clothes, winter supplies and meals to workers in addition to organising entertainment activities for them. The charity also provided first aid kits, conducted medical examinations and organised awareness workshops in cooperation with the Aster Medical Center, benefiting 150 workers.
QC, in cooperation with Ansar Gallery and other commercial centres, distributed 1,000 winter bags to the workers. Also, a group of schools in Qatar, in cooperation with the charity, organised internal campaigns to give workers suitcases of clothes and food baskets, for the benefit of 5,000 workers.
Over 200,000 workers benefited from QC’s projects for Ramadan in 2017, while the number of beneficiaries increased to 400,000 in 2018. Moreover, Adahi (sacrificial) meat was distributed to 4,850 workers in 2017. Some 30,000 workers benefited from QC’s ‘Soqya’ project, which distributed cold water and juices to workers during the summer.
