The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani and Prime Minister of Malaysia Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Thursday reviewed bilateral relations and the means of boosting them in various areas to take the ties to greater heights.
During the official talks in Kuala Lumpur, the Amir and Mahathir discussed ways to consolidate and develop cooperation between the two countries in the fields of energy, economy and investment.
The two sides also discussed the clean energy sector and joint cooperation in the field of assembly of motor vehicles, in which Malaysia has extensive experience.
Qatar and Malaysia also agreed to form a joint high committee headed by the Foreign Ministers of the two countries, in addition to activating the joint economic committee established since 2009.
The Amir and the Malaysian PM also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues, including the Yemeni and the Syrian crises.
They also discussed Malaysia’s efforts to assist Rohingya refugees, where the two sides agreed to intensify humanitarian efforts and charity to help the refugees in their ordeal.
Moreover, the meeting covered the Gulf crisis.
The Malaysian Prime Minister affirmed the need to solve it through dialogue and diplomatic means between the parties concerned.
Later, the Amir attended a luncheon banquet hosted by the Malaysian Prime Minister.
