Belgium and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele is confident that Qatar can deliver the best-ever FIFA World Cup in 2022. The countdown to the mega event scheduled to begin on November 21, four years from now, begins on Wednesday.
Dembele, a member of the 2018 World Cup third-place winner team, is rehabilitating at the world-renowned orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital Aspetar in Doha, said to Qatar Tribune on Tuesday:"You can see that Qatar is a well -organised country and the people love sports a lot. They are highly motivated to deliver the best World Cup ever because it is a well-structured society with a good organisation.
"With the facilities on the ground it may be easy to host despite the challenges but I am excited to see this happen in this region for the first time," Dembele said.
Tottenham, the English Premier League club, which has a medical partnership agreement with Aspetar since 2016, had sent Harry Winks for rehabilitation when he was recovering from injury last season.
Speaking about his visit to Aspetar, Dembele said:"I want the best treatment and I was advised to come here by the Tottenham medical staff. I am very happy with the facilities here because of the different specialists who have a wealth of experience with footballers. For me, it's been brilliant and an amazing place to recover.
"Before I came I had expectations and the club wouldn't have recommended Aspetar if they cannot vouch for its quality. So far, it is a good and amazing place."
Tottenham Hotspur are currently fourth in the Premier League table, which would guarantee them a place in Champions League football next season. However, with many matches in Europe and the league, the Belgian won't return to the team until January.
"I won't be ready when I return to the team. However, I am very happy with the progress I am making here."
Dembele, who has spent nine years in the Premier League, said he's focused on his club now.
"At the moment I am focused on Tottenham. This is the most important for me because you don't want to look too far and I am rather focused on the immediate project. And we'll see what happens in the future.
"It is difficult to answer because I don't want to think about speculation," Dembele said responding to speculations of a potential move to Juventus or a mega rich Chinese league.
The 31-year-old player is confident that Spurs will at some point win the Premier League considering their consistency in the past three seasons.
"At some point, we can win the Premier League because we have a good team and have been training well. We play positive football and have all the ingredients to do something great in the future.
"Expectations have been high in the last two or three years and we were close to winning the title recently. The most important thing is to be in this line and there must be a time to win. Every year we fight for the title and Manchester City are still very strong because they put in a lot of money. I like the way Spurs are building for the future and a stable environment."
Sharing his thoughts on Belgium's disappointing 5-2 defeat against Switzerland on Sunday and their third-place finish in Russia 2018, he said:"The team is not less in quality than a few months ago because of the Switzerland defeat. We have some very good young players and they are getting experience as well and I see a bright future. I think the players took the game easy and there were mistakes.
"Our third place in Russia was a huge achievement and we could have gone further and everyone in Belgium was proud of our campaign," Dembele added.
