Qatar has pledged $30 million through the Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD), as contribution to the Global Financing Facility (GFF) to support the health and nutrition of women, children and adolescents for the next five years.
The Qatari pledge came during the participation of Qatar in the Global Financing Facility (GFF) replenishment conference held in Oslo recently with a delegation headed by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs HE Sultan bin Saad al Muraikhi.
During his speech, Muraikhi said,"Through its partnership with GFF, the QFFD aims at contributing effectively to the global strategy for women's, children's and adolescents' heath." He added:"GFF represents a unique platform to address global health challenges and secure additional funding for health and nutrition by blending grants with the World Bank's IDA and IBRD financing."
Khalifa bin Jassim al Kuwari, member of the Qatari delegation added:"The QFFD's strategy focuses on achieving sustainable and comprehensive development through project financing in human development, especially in the health sector. This is in line with the objective of the Global Financing Facility to achieve Sustainable Development Goal number 3 by 2030."
Kuwari expressed the importance of this contribution, saying Qatar is the first Middle East and North Africa country to join the Global Financing Facility. According to him, the contribution will guarantee Qatar a seat in the Trust Fund Committee.
Mariam Claeson, director of the GFF, said:"Today we are on the cusp of transformative change in global health when no woman, child or adolescent will be left behind. The generous contribution of the government of Qatar will support the GFF partnership to help countries transform the futures of their people by prioritising health- culturally, politically and financially."
