The Qatar courts disposed of 80,933 cases out of a total 96,664 it heard in 2015, says the Annual Statistical Statement on the cases filed in the courts at all levels over the past year.
The statement adopted by President of the Judicial Supreme Council HE Masoud Mohamed al Amiri says that the number of lawsuits heard in 2015 increased compared with 2014 for all types of cases to reach 7,563 with a parallel increase in the number of verdicts which stood at 7,735. The statement also reveals that the tried cases relating to cheques saw a 99 percent increase while the environment and traffic filing increased to reach 96 percent each.
The number of labour lawsuits in 2015 also recorded an increase totalling 1,853 of which 1,320 cases were disposed of. The statistical statement shows that 21,391 cases were filed in the courts during the months of July, August and September 2015 with an increase of 1,483 cases in the same period in 2014.
The president of the Judicial Supreme Council has highly appreciated the efforts being exerted by the magistrates and their assistants in fast-tracking disposal of lawsuits, calling on them to stay committed to achieving prompt and efficient resolutions.
Meanwhile, according to an earlier Al Watan report, the traffic court settled more than 90 percent of cases in 2015, a majority of which were settled in a single hearing. Adjournments were made only to send notices to the parties concerned.
There is an increase in the number of traffic cases considered by the court. On an average, the traffic court delivers judgements in 400 to 500 cases every month. The traffic court hears cases of accidents and violations like motorists jumping traffic signals and overtaking from the right among others.
Cases of motorists driving under the influence of alcohol are referred to the criminal court. The Supreme Judiciary Council had established the traffic court at Madinat Khalifa North a year ago to speed up traffic case hearings, compensate those affected and order repair of their cars by referring them to the insurance companies after obtaining a judgement.

The traffic court considered 3,747 cases in 2014 and settled most of them.
Similarly, it considered 3,037 lawsuits in 2012-13 and decided 2,639 cases. In 2011, it considered 3,096 lawsuits and delivered verdicts in 2,903 cases.
