UEFA president Aleksander~Ceferin is set for a further
four years as head of the European football body after he was confirmed Thursday as the only candidate for re-election.
The 51-year-old Slovenian is set to be elected for a further period between 2019 and 2023 at the UEFA Congress in Rome on February 7.
Ceferin has been UEFA~president since September 2016 when he completed the four-year term of Michel Platini, who was banned by FIFA over an improper payments affair.
Hungarian Sandor Csanyi is meanwhile the sole candidate standing for re-election as vice-president, UEFA said following the Wednesday deadline for candidates.
German Football Federation (DFB) president Reinhard Grindel is meanwhile confirmed as seeking a new term on the executive council of football's world governing body FIFA. He was first elected by UEFA into the FIFA Council in 2017 to complete the final two years of Wolfgang Niersbach's four-year mandate. Niersbach resigned in connection with the Germany 2006 World Cup affair.
Grindel is now a UEFA candidate for a four-year term on the FIFA body. Two others, Fernando Gomes of Portugal and Georgios Koumas, are standing for two positions on two-year terms.
