Qatar's Yousuf al Kazim, President of Qatar Boxing and Wrestling Federation (QBWF), has been elected as a member of the Executive Office of the International Boxing Federation for the 2018-2022 session during the recent General Assembly meeting in Moscow.
Kazim won 58 votes going 16 points clear of his nearest rival, Chinese Zhang Jianping who had 42 votes, while Sri Lankan Dian Gomez finished third with 12 votes.
Kazim's win shows a great support for the Arab bloc in the International Federation, and it is also a new achievement for Qatari sport.
The President of Qatar Boxing Federation stressed the importance of winning the position and the importance and support of its continued efforts in the development of boxing sport in the Arab and Asian region.
During these elections, the International Boxing Federation also elected Uzbekistan's Gafur Rakhimov as president of the International Boxing Federation after winning the electoral process during the second round of voting. Rakhimov won 86 votes from 134, defeating former Olympic champion Serik Konakbayev of Kazakhstan.
