The Qatar Basketball Federation have replaced national team coach Tim Lewis with Panos Yiannara of Serbia.
Lewis was asked to go after Qatar suffered a series of poor results particularly in the FIBA World Cip qualifiers and also at the Asian Games.
Soon after his appointment, Yiannara said,"It's a huge honour for me to be in this position and I want to thank the federation for giving me this opportunity.
"I believe we have a good group of guys with huge potentials and the goal is to get them prepared for FIBA qualifying games.
"We want to become better everyday and help the young guys to grow and hopefully build a solid national team for Qatar," he added.
The Serbian has a huge task ahead as Qatar are currently at the bottom of the points table in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 qualifiers with just two wins from eight games.
The team will face Japan in the next round of qualifiers in a must-win encounter on November 30.
