THE State of Qatar has underlined the importance of international cooperation to eradicate organised crime, stressing its support to international efforts to confront all forms of such crimes.
This came in a speech delivered by HE Major General Dr Abdullah Yousuf al Mal, advisor to HE the Minister of Interior and head of the delegation of the State of Qatar participating in the Ninth Session of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention against Organized Crime, currently being held in the Austrian capital, Vienna.
In his speech, Dr al Mal highlighted Qatar's continuous contributions to the various United Nations activities related to this field, notably the financing of the World Program for the Implementation of the Doha Declaration of the United Nations Conference on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice 2015, which is one of the largest and most comprehensive programmes offered by a state in the history of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
He also reviewed the quarterly report of the World Program for the Doha Declaration and the achievements made at that level, such as the establishment of the Global Integrity Network launched in April 2018, the rehabilitation of prisoners and the training of practitioners from more than 40 countries, as well as study programmes and research against organised crime, especially at the university level, and other programmes to prevent drug taking.
Al-Mal stressed the determination of Qatar to support the projects and initiatives of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the rest of the United Nations concerned bodies.
