THE Doha Fire Station grounds were transformed into a fashion runway on Tuesday for the VIP opening of the exhibition titled 'Russian Seasons'.
The event is part of the Qatar-Russia Year of Culture 2018 programme featuring collections that gives the residents of Qatar a glimpse of celebrated Russian fashion and craftsmanship.
The exhibition showcases the works of internationally-acclaimed Russian fashion designer Tatyana Parfionova. Her exclusive demi-couture collection was presented at a fashion show.
At the Gallery Space of the Doha Fire Station, the creations of world-renowned Russian fashion designer and street-style icon Vika Gazinskaya are put on display.
"I am very happy to be here. This exhibition was shown one year ago in Moscow in my native city. It was done on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of my brand last year. The curator of the exhibition Frol Burimsky decided to bring the exhibition to Qatar as part of Qatar and Russia Year of Culture 2018. The dresses on display have been created in the past one decade. Only two dresses are from the current Fall/Winter 18/19 collection while the rest are from different collections. We chose the more artistic and more unique piecesfor the show in Qatar," Gazinskaya told the local media. Her retrospective exhibition featuring around 22 dresses will be open for public viewing until October 23.
Another feature of the event is the installation of rare samples of the Russian authentic folk craft Krestetskaya strochka. The unique traditional production from the town of Velikiy Novgorod brought an embroidery master to the show to demonstrate how exquisite traditional embroidery was being delicately created.
"Last week, we organised the very first fashion event for Qatari designers in Moscow called 'Qatari Seasons'. And now, we are presenting 'Russia Seasons' in Doha. We are delighted to display the works of two incredible designers in the modern space of the Doha Fire Station, which is equally as exquisite, original and recognisable as the garments on the show," Project Curator Frol Burimsky commented on the event.
The year 2018 has been announced as a Year of Culture between Qatar and Russia, a year-long programme developed by Qatar Museums to deepen understanding between the two nations through mutual exchanges of arts, culture, heritage and sport. Multiple cross cultural collaborations, educational and charity events took place in both countries during the year.
