A study conducted by the Ministry of Interior (MoI), represented by the General Administration of the Coast Guard and Border, has warned scooter users against dangers of negligence in following maritime safety rules.
The study revealed that most accidents of water scooters take place due to violations of safety rules, including high speed, reckless driving, lack of caution and failure to follow the instructions of the General Administration of the Coast Guard and Border.
According to the study, as the use of water scooters has increased over the past few years, users must ensure that the scooters are safe before using.
The study also warns against diverting to new sites and racetracks and galloping as it can lead to serious injuries, and sometimes to death.
The MoI has urged users to adhere to the maritime safety rules and follow instructions strictly for their own and others' safety, especially while being on beaches.
The ministry added that rescue patrols are present continuously on various Qatari beaches in order to provide assistance and ensure safety of swimmers.
The ministry pointed out that lack of use of safety equipment, speed, failure to adhere to the legal age of driving scooters and absence of lights when driving in fog or in poor visibility are the main reasons behind mishaps.
