The 15-member hit team sent by Riyadh took just seven minutes to kill journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi Consulate in Instanbul, Al Jazeera reported on Tuesday, quoting Turkish sources.
It was Salah al Teqiqi, director of forensic medicine of Saudi Public Security, who cut the body into pieces, according to the audio recordings obtained by the Turkish authorities, the report said.
Khashoggi was killed inside the Saudi consul-general's room and in his presence. He was beaten up brutally and injected with something before being killed and the body chopped into pieces, the recordings revealed.
After the murder, Teqiqi asked the consul-general to leave the room. He also told his team members to listen to music before beginning to chop the body, the news report said. According to the recordings, the Saudi team killed Khashoggi soon after he entered the consulate.
Meanwhile, Turkish investigators said they will not search the residence of Saudi Arabia's Consul-General Mohammad al Otaibi in Istanbul on Tuesday. Police said the search was called off because Saudi officials were not able to join. Otaibi left the Turkish city on Tuesday for Riyadh on a scheduled flight.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said officials may ask for testimony from staff at the Saudi consulate if deemed necessary but that no restrictions on travel have been placed on the Kingdom's diplomats in Turkey.
