Renowned Qatari actor Abdul Aziz Jassim died on Sunday in Bangkok after illness. He was 61.
Abdulaziz Jassim was one of the main pillars of Qatari and Gulf theatre. He had around 30 plays and 56 television dramas to his credit.
Jassim started acting in 1977 after joining Al Sadd theatre and his successful career spanned across Qatari theatre, radio and television. He also participated in many Gulf productions, which are engraved in the memory of the audiences.
A comedy duet he conceptualised along with Ghanem al Sulaiti was performed successfully across the Gulf for several years.
He wrote and acted in 'Deira Ezz' in November, his last play, with a group of artistes from the Qatari theatre. It was centred on the blockade of Qatar. The play, which was directed by Saad al Burshid, when performed at Qatar National Theatre received great appreciation from citizens and residents alike.
Several public figures and officials expressed condolences on the death of Jassim.
"There is no doubt that Qatari artiste Abdul Aziz Jassim's demise will leave its impact on the Qatari and Gulf art scene and in the hearts of the people of Qatar and the Gulf. Our heartfelt condolences to his family and all his loved ones," said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani in a tweet.
