Qatar and the Gambia have signed a $3 million grant agreement to promote the rule of the law and the establishment of a comprehensive democratic system in the West African country.
Ambassador of Qatar to the Gambia HE Faisal bin Fahad al Mana and Gambian Minister of Agriculture Lamin Dibba, on behalf of the minister of finance, signed the agreement at the embassy of Qatar in Banjul.
The support comes in fulfilment of Qatar's commitment to the Gambia's new government, made during the donor conference in Brussels in May, said the ambassador.
He said the two countries will strengthen cooperation in the coming years for the benefit of the friendly peoples."The relations between Qatar and the Gambia have made significant progress in several fields. Agreements have been signed on double taxation, employment and maritime navigation," he said.
The Gambian minister thanked Qatar, praising its financial and moral support for his country's democratic process.
Gambia's Attorney-General and Minister of Justice Abubacarr Tambadou, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Lamin Camara and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture Ada Gaye attended the signing ceremony.
