PRESIDENT of the Republic of Ecuador Lenin Moreno said that his discussions with the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani during HH's visit to Ecuador were positive and fruitful for both countries.
In statements to Al-Raya newspaper published on Thursday, President Moreno said this is one of the most important visits for Ecuador and this is part of his country's international relations strategy in pursuit of strategic allies.
The president added that his country had the opportunity to sign several agreements with the State of Qatar, including a tool for joint cooperation to establish a ministerial committee on economic, trade, investment and technical affairs, which is a great achievement as it relates to a joint team that will soon allow them to announce good news for the country.
Qatar and Ecuador share common goals in the fields of economy, investment, technology, agriculture, youth, sports and culture, which are among other important aspects of the welfare of their peoples, he said, pointing out that the agreements strengthen the relationship between the two countries and open ways for investment, as well as deepen the diplomatic dialogue between the two sides as a historical precedent.
Ecuador, the president said, is a country of opportunities and is expected to be an investment destination and its doors will always be open to friendly countries.
The Ecuadorian President stressed that his country is keen to deepen relations with Qatar, and that it seeks strategic partners in all countries that express willingness to do so.
He referred to the important sectors included in the agreements signed between the two countries during HH the Amir's visit, saying:"We are very interested in the development of youth and sports sector, and for that we signed a Memorandum of Understanding that promotes the organisation of joint competitions with the participation of experts and specialists in various sectors."
He pointed out that it is important to strengthen the agricultural sector by announcing the mutual intention of cooperation in this area, which aims to exchange products, noting that Ecuador has a lot of agricultural potential and that his country is committed to search for new international markets.
Stressing importance of promoting environmental care globally, Moreno remarked,"That is why we are participating in a cooperation agreement on this issue which will focus on deepening compliance with international standards in the field of the environment."
Regarding Qatar's hosting of 2022 FIFA World Cup, he said,"We know that the World Cup is one of the major events of great importance. We are pleased that Qatar is a good place for this wonderful event and we hope that our team will participate in it."
He added,"We have no doubt that the World Cup will be successful. We will all appreciate the beauty and generosity of Qatar."
He described Qatar as a nation with a lot of potential for development and achievement.
On the future of relations between the two countries Moreno said,"We want to assure the people of Qatar our commitment to further deepen relations and to find in Ecuador opportunities and potential for investment in multiple sectors."
