Over 604,000 Afghans have returned from Iran and Pakistan to their embattled home country so far this year, according to a report published on Tuesday.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) noted that 604,096 people have returned to Afghanistan since January 1. The vast majority of them - around 578,000 - returned from Iran, mainly due to the ongoing economic crisis in that country.
"Because of the currency devaluation and general economic downturn in Iran, my income just wasn't enough to feed all three of us,"a woman identified as Sakina was quoted as saying. She has returned to Afghanistan along with her two siblings.
Also in the past week, some 680 undocumented Afghan refugees returned to Afghanistan from neighbouring Pakistan, according to IOM.
