Qatar will impose a ban on the import and sale of 60 and 40 watts tungsten (incandescent) light bulbs from November 1, 2016, according to the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).
The MME had already banned import of high glow 70 and 100 watts categories. The ban has been in force since May 1, 2016.
The ban aims at checking the environment damage caused by incandescent light bulbs as well as to save energy.
The Qatar General Authority for Specifications and Standardisation of the MME calls on importers and traders to abide by the procedures to protect the environment for the benefit of society.
The move is part of the ministry's efforts to conserve energy and protect the environment in line with Qatar National Vision.
The MME has also been running inspection campaigns to prevent the import and circulation of the"high-glow bulbs" to ensure the health and safety of people.
The imported goods must meet the standards specifications.
