AMBASSADOR of Italy to Qatar HE Pasquale Salzano underscored the preparedness of the Italian Embassy to work together with Qatari cultural institutions in the fields of arts, music, museums and cultural heritage protection in line with its intense cultural programme this year.
Speaking at the opening of the Fare Cinema (Making Films) event held at the Bin Jelmood House in Msheireb Museums in Doha on Sunday, Ambassador Salzano said the Italian mission in Doha is keen to meet the increased demand for Italian cultural presence in Qatar.
"Italy has a great tradition of quality cinema and its contemporary film production is supported as an integral part of the promotion of 'Brand Italy' to enhance the positive image of our country all over the world. Fare Cinema is part of the integrated promotion plan of the 'Italian Way of Life', which features cinema as a priority," the envoy said.
Fare Cinema event is dedicated to the Italian filmmaking industry. It is an initiative promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in more than 100 capitals, including Doha. The Italian Embassy hosted the event in Qatar in partnership with Msheireb Museums.
On the occasion, Ambassador Salzano also stressed the contributions of Italian cinematography in popularising the Italian cinema globally.
"The Italian cinematography is well known and appreciated all over the world. Movie set-designers do not appear in front of a camera. They work behind the scenes to create a realistic environment in which the plot unfolds, to build the atmosphere of the story and to fill in the space with feelings and emotions. This event aims to explain the crucial role played by the beautiful locations, magnificent architecture and original pieces of design, the attention to furniture, details and style in making the 'Made in Italy' cinema truly unique in the world," the top official said.
The talk featured Italian movie set designers Alida Capppellini and Giovanni Licheri together with Dr Cherif Amor, professor of design at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts (VCUArts). The panellists presented a number of short clips of Italian films to demonstrate the intricacies that go into designing a movie set.
