AL Ahli Hospital will host a two-day symposium on oesophageal disorders next month, which is expected to be attended by over 500 participants from private and public healthcare facilities.
The symposium to take place on October 26 and 27 at Ezdan Palace will have speakers from Qatar and Europe. The participants will be able to get eight Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points from the conference. It is supported by Hamad Medical Corporation and Al Emadi Hospital.
It is worth to note that the hospital has high-resolution manometry (HRM) of the oesophagus which is a new technique that provides a more precise assessment of oesophageal motility than conventional techniques.
Speaking at a press conference in Doha on Sunday, CEO of Al Ahli Hospital Khalid al Emadi said the conference will feature consultants having extensive experience in this specialty from renowned medical institutions in Qatar and Europe. He added that the conference will help to highlight the efforts that those centres are making in the field of medical research and exchange of knowledge through daily medical practices enriching experience of specialists and leading to advancement in humanitarian services.
He said that Al Ahli Hospital is recognised as a CPD centre by the Ministry of Public Health's Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners."Since the hospital received the accreditation in 2016, it has organised 106 medical symposiums and education workshops attended by 120,000 participants. The CPD hours reached 36,870 hours for all participants."
According to Emadi, these conferences ensure that the participants have continuous medical education, which is needed to renew their licences. It also enhances their professional skills and the quality of services being provided.
Chief of Medical Staff Dr Abdul Azim Abdul Wahab Hussain said,"We have speakers from Al Ahli, HMC and Europe. The participants will get a CPD of eight hours for two days. The fee is QR300 for physicians and QR150 for paramedics."
According to him, this is the second event of this calibre by the hospital and registration will start on Monday, from 9am to 2pm at the hospital's lobby. Online registration will start next week at www.ahlihospital.com.
The slots will be decided on a first-come, first-served basis.
Consultant Gastroenterologist Dr Siddiq Mohamed Osman Elmalik said they decided to host this conference because the oesophageal disorders are becoming very common after diabetes and hypertension in primary care."In gastroenterology, it is the number one disease followed by irritable bowel syndrome."
According to him, physicians, doctors or general practitioners see about 25 percent of patients having this condition on a daily basis.
He, however, added that oesophageal disorder is one area in gastroenterology, where new technologies were evolving.
According to him, one of the technologies that was developed recently is oesophageal motility disorder where there is a new machine to check all the oesophageal disorders the high-resolution manometry (HRM).
According to him, it works better than endoscopy, X-rays and lab tests.
"This machine was introduced in 2016 and now we are doing around 10 cases a month. This is helping us quite a lot," he said.
He added that the attendees will not be doctors only, but also others in the medical field, including nurses, paramedics and technicians.
