Qatar is making huge progress in implementing the plans announced last year to boost Qatar's LNG output by 30 percent from 77 million tonnes to 100 million tonnes per annum, Qatar Petroleum (QP) President and CEO Saad Sherida al Kaabi has said
Speaking during a panel discussion at Gastech 2018 Conference and Exhibition in Barcelona on Tuesday, Kaabi said,"The increase in production would help meet future global demand for clean energy."
He said Qatar understands the growing importance of gas as a clean source of energy and will continue to play a leading role to help ensure security of supplies.
Kaabi said,"Due to its environmental qualities as the cleanest fossil fuel, natural gas is playing an increasing key role, not as a transition fuel, but rather as a destination fuel. At the same time, many countries around the world are placing greater emphasis on natural gas as a strategic source of energy and an important element of its national energy security."
He highlighted the main elements that are helping the increase in demand for LNG, particularly from China and India as well as other Asian and African Countries.
He also pointed out that the diminishing production in Europe means additional and continued demand for LNG in the European market.
He added that while some of the gas deals to meet that demand will be short-term, the bulk will be long-term.
Kaabi was joined by chief executives from PetroChina, Gazprom, Royal Dutch Shell, Exxon Mobile Gas and Power Marketing Company, Repsol, and Vitol in the panel discussion.
To highlight Qatar's leading position in the global gas and LNG industry, QP is taking part in the expo as the 'Strategic Partner'.
Earlier, Kaabi received His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain as he visited QP's pavilion at the official opening of the Gastech exhibition. Kaabi briefed His Majesty on QP and the role it plays in the economic and industrial development of Qatar and in helping meet the world's demand for energy.
The pavilion at the Gastech 2018 exhibition prominently features QP's extensive operations in the oil and gas industry, the LNG production activities of Qatargas, and the LNG shipping capabilities of Nakilat.
In addition to QP's role as the event's lead sponsor, Qatargas is also a"Gold Sponsor", while Nakilat is an"Associate Sponsor" of Gastech 2018.
On the sidelines of the conference, the QP CEO held a series of meetings with a number of senior international energy leaders and executives including Lebanon's Minister of Energy Cesar Abi Khalil, Repsol CEO Josu Jon imaz, Uniper Energy CEO Keith Martin, Novatek Director and Chairman Leonid V Mikhelson, and Vitol CEO Russell Hardy.
Discussions during the meetings covered various aspects of cooperation in the energy field.
The four-day event, which is scheduled until September 20, features a multi-streamed conference with over 350 speakers and 250 technical presentations as well as an international exhibition that will see the participation of over 700 exhibitors from more than 90 countries across the world.
Gastech 2018 hosts all the major players in the global gas and LNG industry, confirming the event's reputation as the most important meeting place for professionals representing the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the industry. The event was hosted in Doha, in October 2002.
