The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar will be a benchmark for future events from a legacy perspective, a top official of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has said.
Speaking at a panel discussion during the recently concluded Qatar-Germany Business and Investment Forum in Berlin, SC Secretary-General Hassan al Thawadi said Qatar has taken a lot of inspiration from 2006 FIFA World Cup that was held in Germany.
"Germany 2006 was particularly inspirational for us because the legacy of that tournament is still being felt today. We have adopted the same approach as regards with our preparations as planning for legacy begins the moment you win the right to host the tournament. From demountable stadiums to promoting healthy living, I'm confident the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be a benchmark for future events from a legacy perspective," he said.
