THE Pakistani community in Qatar on Tuesday observed their country's Independence Day with traditional fervour and enthusiasm.
The celebrations of the day kicked-off with an impressive flag hoisting ceremony held on Pakistan Embassy premises in diplomatic area in the morning. The Charge d'Affaires at Pakistan Embassy Murad Baseer unfurled the white-green Pakistani flag amidst playing of Pakistan's national anthem.
A smart contingent of Pakistan Armed Forces presented a march past much to the excitement of the community members.
A large number of Pakistanis attended the function despite it being a working and hot day. The attendance of families and children was unprecedented.
Keeping in view the hot weather, the second part of the function was held in the embassy's auditorium. Community Welfare Attache Hafiz Junaid Sial read some verses from the Holy Quran.
Third secretary Sarwar Hussain read out special messages sent by Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Justice (Retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk, in which both the leaders highlighted the importance of the day and paid tributes to the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and other leaders of the Pakistan Movement whose concerted efforts led to the creation of Pakistan on August 14, 2017.
Speaking on the occasion, the charge d'affaires congratulated his compatriots on the auspicious occasion of their country's Independence Day. He also prayed for the well-being and prosperity of community members.
He called upon members of Pakistani community to work even harder and earn a good name for their motherland. He urged them to follow the golden principles of unity, faith and discipline taught by Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Furthermore, he urged them to generously contribute towards the fund recently established by the government of Pakistan for the construction of Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand dams in the country to overcome impending water challenges.
Syed Intaiser Hussain presented patriotic songs on the occasion. Embassy's Commercial Secretary Salman Ali, Counsellors Rizwan Manzoor and Mustafa Kamal and Defence Attach` Commodore Irfan Taj were present on the occasion. A special cake was cut to mark the event. The guests were served to traditional Pakistani breakfast.
