The 5th Green School Project of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers Qatar Chapter (PICE-Qatar) took off with the groundbreaking ceremonies held at San Isidro Isidro National High School in Barangay San Isidro, Sogod, Leyte, Philippines on Saturday.
The green school project is one of the flagship outreach programmes of the group of Filipino civil engineers in Qatar which delivers benefits to their compatriots in their home country. The group also offers scholarship programmes and carries out other outreach missions.
The groundbreaking of the school project coincided with the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement by the PICE Qatar and Philippine Department of Education (DepEd) representatives.
According to PICE Qatar President Aileen Abejero Buenaflor, the initiative involves support and participation of DepEd and other stakeholders in site clearing and grubbing, provision for temporary water & power connection, building permit and supply of aggregates.
She said that the fund drive for the project started last year during the term of then PICE Qatar president Allen L. Nacario though final planning, design and construction fall to her leadership.
Location and beneficiary of the project was endorsed by PICE Qatar Project Coordinator Engr. Helario Amoguis to the Green School Building Committee headed by Engr. Eric Reprima early this year. The endorsement and consequent approval were made early this year by the 2018 Board of Directors for the project. To ensure the quality of construction, PICE Qatar has appointed Engr. Jonathan Corpin as dedicated supervising engineer, she added.
"PICE Qatar wishes to complete the project early without compromising the quality and safety aspects of the work. The proposed project is designed to provide significant support to the locality that is currently experiencing enormous shortage of classrooms. This will be the first permanent single classroom constructed in the newly approved San Isidro National High School that has currently almost 200 students on its rolls," the PICE Qatar President said.
