MORE than 30 photographs showing Qatar's rich architecture and landscape were unveiled to the public at the opening of Desert Rose Exhibition in Katara Art Studio in Doha on Sunday.
The photos showing various techniques and styles were taken by British photographer and time-lapse filmmaker Richard Bentley. His first solo exhibition will be on public display until July 25.
Bentley said he drew his inspiration from the Doha skyline and Qatar's unique architecture to capture them through his lens.
"It's all about Qatar, featuring photographs of architecture, skyline and a little bit of conceptual art. I would like to thank Katara for this opportunity to display my work. I am very grateful," the artist said.
Ahmed al Sayyed, assistant general manager of Katara, said that the exhibition presents unique works highlighting the diversity of Qatar's landscape. Emphasising that Katara seeks to enrich the cultural arena of the country, he extended an invitation to the public to visit the exhibition.
Among the featured landmarks at the exhibition is the iconic Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) wherein Bentley highlights not just the magnificent exterior of the building, but its complex interior as well as with interesting architectural curves and angles. His photographs of MIA provide fresh insights about one of the famous destinations in the country.
Bentley always had an interest in the moving and the still image, according to his official website. He was educated in London in Communication and Information Studies where he specialised in video production, in particular film editing. He worked for the BBC as a news director and field producer followed by several years as a video journalist.
His exploration of over 45 countries is documented through photography which turned into a passion for time-lapse photography. His time-lapse and photography work has now been associated with international fashion brands, used in feature-length movies and documentary films, according to the profile.
